Second Annual Poetry Ourselves Contest

You must meet the following criteria:

Students will need to also participate in the Poetry Out Loud Colorado recitation competition.
Students should not include their name or region within the text of their poem. A media waiver must be signed and submitted with the poem.

Each student may submit ONE original poem, typed, and no longer than fifty (50) lines. All styles of poetry will be considered.

Entries must be the original work of the student and will be judged solely on artistic excellence. Works may not include any discriminatory, obscene, profane, threatening, or violent content or language.
Entries will be judged by a select group of Poetry Out Loud poet judges. The review process for Poetry Ourselves will be anonymous. The identity of the poet (including name and region) will not be known to the judges.
First- and second-place winners will receive an award.
Winning work may be featured on various organization websites and in social and mass media. Students and their guardians must provide permission for the publishing of their work.

Cada estudiante podrá presentar UN poema original, mecanografiado y de no más de cincuenta (50) líneas. Se considerarán todos los estilos de poesía.

Las entradas deben ser el trabajo original del estudiante y se juzgarán únicamente por su excelencia artística. Las obras no pueden incluir ningún contenido o lenguaje discriminatorio, obsceno, profano, amenazante o violento.
Las entradas serán juzgadas por un grupo selecto de jueces poetas de Poetry Out Loud. El proceso de revisión de Poetry Ourselves será anónimo. Los jueces no conocerán la identidad del poeta (incluido el nombre y la región).
Los ganadores del primer y segundo lugar recibirán un premio.

The poem is clear in subject matter and message.
The poem includes figurative language to convey the meaning or message (i.e. metaphor, simile, hyperbole, personification, allusion, etc.). Consideration will be given to quality of use instead of quantity.
The poem includes rhetorical devices to convey the meaning or message (i.e. end rhyme, internal rhyme, alliteration, repetition, anaphora, etc.). Consideration will be given to quality of use instead of quantity.
The poem does not use many clichés. Or if clichés are used, they are creatively and uniquely incorporated.

El poema es claro en tema y mensaje.
El poema incluye lenguaje figurado para transmitir el significado o mensaje (es decir, metáfora, símil, hipérbole, personificación, alusión, etc.). Se dará consideración a la calidad del uso en lugar de a la cantidad.
